Moving During the Pandemic - blog post image

29/07/2020

The New York Times recently publicized this article “Moving During COVID.” People are certainly reevaluating things these days. If moving is a consideration or even a decision, we encourage you to read this article and consider the following:

  • 1. Use a licensed and insured moving company.
  • 2. All employees must wear masks and gloves during the moving process.
  • 3. Pack the smaller, more frequently used items yourself.

With more people working virtually opportunities to move to a more desirable location have increased. Don’t let COVID discourage you from doing so, just take adequate precautions.

“I chose to pack my own belongings and hire a moving company to do the heavy lifting. My movers wore masks throughout the process, and the company required that I have a hand-washing station available on both ends of the move. Everyone practiced social distancing.”

Is COVID Making People Move?

“Chances are, you might want to abandon crowded cities. It’s now obvious, if it weren’t before, that staying in big cities can be bad for your health. The density of social contact in urban areas—home to almost 60 percent of the global population—makes them Petri dishes for the spread of contagious diseases. The Covid-19 “attack rate” in New York City was five times the national average. (Similarly, depopulated Eastern European countries have far lower fatality rates from Covid-19 than more densely populated Western Europe.)”

Many realtors are offering virtual tours instead of the traditional Open Houses. Since there is no risk in also driving by the neighborhoods, buyers can still make informed decisions both in-person and online. If COVID cases are a driving factor because you are in a high case state here is the most recent map from the CDC.

As Silicon Valley venture capitalist Balaji Srinivasan put it in a pithy tweet, “Sell city, buy country.” (Meaning countryside),
